Child detention is immoral, inhumane, and is in flagrant violation of federal law. Community groups, faith leaders, alongside refugee and immigrant families, stand together in a call to end the United States policy of locking up children away from their parents. We will gather at the playground beside Piedmont Elementary in Charleston, WV to highlight the fact that children belong on playgrounds and in their homes, they should not be locked up in cages.
Speakers include Mexican immigrant Jackie Lozano, asylee from Angola Patrice Leo Pedro, Lynn Clark with WV Interfaith Refugee Ministries, Bishop Mike Klusmeyer,of WV Episcopal Diocese, and Joseph Cohen with ACLU-WV.
