We're keeping Homestead child detention center closed for good.
In 2019, AFSC organized with partners and communities across the U.S. to shut down the nation's largest detention center for migrant children, located in Homestead, Florida. And when we heard the Biden administration was exploring reopening the facility in the spring of 2021, we mobilized again to stop it from happening.
The administration appears to have heard our message and has backed away from reopening the detention center in Homestead. However, much remains to be done to uphold the rights of children and all migrants seeking refuge.
